Over 250 years ago, While the Baal Shem Tov was attending the wedding of one of his grandchildren, many guests were invited, many people were there, for everybody wanted to join in the special simcha.
As the Baal Shem Tov and all that were present were making their way towards the chuppah, there was a passing carriage with an individual who was unknown in the city.
The Baal Shem Tov left the wedding procession And he walked over to this person in the carriage, and he whispered something into this man's ear.
All who were present saw what had happened, and they then saw this individual take his carriage and go towards the only inn in town.
The Talmidim of the Baal Shem Tov who had seen everything decided.
that this individual must be a special tzaddik.
And after the wedding, they wanted to go and acquaint themselves with him and learn something that they could apply to their very own lives.
After the wedding was complete, the Talmidim went to visit this man.
And when they saw him, they greeted him with much honor, and they said, Shalom Aleichem, Rebbe.
When the individual heard this greeting, he looked at them quite surprised and he said, I am no Rebbe.
We saw the respect that the Baal Shem Tov gave to you and how the Baal Shem Tov left the wedding in order to tell you something.
You must be special.
There must be something from you that we can learn.
Please, would you share it with us? This guest of course knew that he was not a Rebbe and he tried to explain to the students that he was not, but he saw they wouldn't accept it.
So he said, okay, since you'd like to know who I am and what's going on, I will share a story with you.
Pay attention and you will know what has happened.
