Clouds In Each Paper, by Thich Nhat Hanh If you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees…
The right oxygen content for life didn't just happen to be on the planet Earth.
It is life that has created breath.
There's a weaving of life and atmosphere and earth and water and energy.
The head thought story causes us to believe we are these singular individuals, disconnected, often lonely, alienated.
And the body is an ever-present remembrance of the myth of that story.
Sharing of earth, of water, of sun, energy, of air.
Cycling through all life forms on the whole of the planet.
Without the water from the clouds to nourish the trees, there would be no substance of the page.
Without the air and the sun and the earth, The page wouldn't exist.
The poet wouldn't exist.
The pen wouldn't exist.
In his words, the poet knows how to look at the page and see the interconnected wholeness of everything.
So maybe you could say that's what we're learning in this practice, to see with the eyes of the poet, not the metaphor, but the truth of interconnection, interbeing.
Evolutionary biologist Lynn Margolis said the same thing in different words.
Independence is a political term, not a scientific one.
So what if all of this is not something to intellectually think about? but rather to drop into our bodies and feel its truth.
