Episode 70 of the CDC Tech Life Podcast features Dr. Gabe Hillegass, Founder and CEO of Charleston-based HealthTech Startup Solverein. Gabe shares his unique journey from Medicine to Law to…
Our guest on this episode of the Charleston Digital Corridor Tech Life Podcast is Dr. Gabe Hillegass.
Gabe, in addition to being a physician, is now also the founder and CEO of Solverin.
Well, why don't we get started about Solverin and tell us a little bit about what the venture is about, what problems you're trying to solve, and who you envision as your customers?
So, Solverin is an individual access service company with a mission to create a future where the exchange of health records provides greater trust and a new standard for security, connection, and care.
It came out of... my lived experience as a pain physician practicing and taking care of patients who have suffered terrible injuries, work-related and personal injuries, and seeing the administrative frictions, not only of the healthcare system, but also of the legal system and how those Frictions and pain points create undue administrative burden and undue suffering delay to the patients, their families and their loved ones.
So the idea is to empower the individual patient with access to their records.
And then creating the pipes and guardrails for them to share that health information with whomever they please.
Also to make the information usable and understandable so that they can make better decisions about their health care.
Yeah, I love the way you phrased the value prop, right? A lot of software promises to reduce bureaucracy, friction and whatnot, but tying it specifically to unnecessary suffering in this space that's caused by some of that lack of efficiency is really intriguing.
Yeah, there's a huge cognitive burden to try to read a medical record and translate it into layman's terms.
And so there's obviously a lot of emerging technology through large language models that can assist with that.
And then also, too, there's this technology barrier to accessing the information where the current state is people have to manage their portals and they may have numerous portals to manage at one time.
And so, you know, through interoperability improvements and new standards for how information can be sourced, we can create efficiency and value and hopefully create positive impact for individuals.
