So in your book in this in section two, you talked about building resilience in the classroom, and you refer to the school years as the building years.

Well, what I mean by that is in that time between kindergarten and high school, these are years of tremendous growth and development for children, not just socially and academically, but physically, musically, in terms of their competence, in terms of forming independent relationships outside of the family.

And so there are tremendous influences and tremendous opportunities for the lucky children and tremendous peril for the children who are not so lucky, who don't have the same opportunities to excel, to learn, to have that variety of experiences which will launch them successfully into adolescence where they're going to need to develop an independent sense of identity, much greater autonomy from the family, much greater resilience in developing their own sense of style, their own sense of independently choosing what they're going to do and how they're going to live in the world.

And then moving from there to the importance of friendships, how does that help children develop that resilience?
