Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories
Oct 23, 2026 · 7 min · 9 segments
Another day of it just simply being slow. The wind and the waves haven't helped us for our offshore fleet but that will hopefully change soon. I do have a few things to report on so listen up.
So a lot of that really good tuna fishing we were having offshore, black fins and yellow fins, nobody knows what to expect.
And typically, middle of October to the middle of November is the absolute best time to go out and stock your freezer up with some tuna.
The Oregon Inlet fleet was catching yellowfin tunas, blackfin tunas, both of them catching both species.
The Oregon Inlet fleet can't get across the bar, and it's just going to be a matter of wait and see.
I can remember when I was a captain at Oregon Inlet, one September, we were blown out 27 days of the month.
So that gives you an idea that a week-long blow is bad, but they've been a lot worse.
However, during that blow that many years ago, the highway wasn't destroyed, and the access to Hatteras Island wasn't limited like it is right now.
And just a big thanks to all the highway crews and the people that are doing everything they can.
