And then some people think it's about like being like a zombie, like you get into this calm state that just takes you through your day like a tractor beam, which, of course, that's not very appealing.

So mindfulness is a way of paying attention, but it can be focused like a laser pointer or it can be broad like a searchlight.

And a key aspect of it is that mindfulness includes the body, which means that we're not just stuck in our head with our thoughts, but we have this whole resource.

of our physical being where we could read our energy and our impulses and our needs and our goals and priorities.

So it just really expands this way of being that is just a tremendous resource.

So there's typically people know about mindfulness meditation where you might sit and be present with your breath, be present with your thoughts, with body sensations coming and going.

It's about how do I respond to in this moment to this difficult conversation or taking care of myself at the end of a long day when I'm too tired to do all the good things I know that I should be doing.

What is real life mindfulness? And that's the thing that's kept me interested in working with it my entire career.
And since I've been helping people lower their stress, I always find the first thing out of someone's mouth is that I don't have the time.
