- *How do I pray love over my child in a world that has redefined what love even means?* - *What does it look like to raise a child known for their love?* This episode is for the SAHM who wants more…
Number one, understanding the love you are praying for.
The love you are praying over your child is not the love the world talks about.
It is something altogether different.
The world's love is conditional.
It loves what is lovely, it loves when it is convenient, it loves as long as it is reciprocated.
The standard should not be the world's love.
The standard should be God's love, which loved first, which loved freely, which loves at a great personal cost.
That is the love you are praying over your child.
Not a feeling, a choice, a daily others first, never selfish decision to love the way God loves.
Talk to your child this week about the difference between feeling love and choosing love.
Sometimes love is a warm feeling, but sometimes love is a choice you make when you don't feel like it, and the second kind is the most powerful.
Number two, pray that they love the overlooked.
One of the most specific and powerful things that you can pray over your child is that they would see and love the people the world overlooks.
Jesus constantly moved towards the people everyone else moved away from: the outsider, the outcast, the one sitting alone in the edge of the room.
A child who carries that simple impulse, who notice who is on the outside and chooses to go sit with them, is a child who is reflecting the heart of Jesus in one of the most tangible ways possible.
Number three, pray that love defines their reputation.
Here is one of the most beautiful things you can pray over your child: that they would be known above everything else for their love.
John 3:13-35 reads, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Not by their doctrine, not by their church attendance, not by their moral record, by their love.
When you pray that that love defines their reputation, you are praying that the most recognizable thing about them points directly to God.
Speak this, speak this life over your child.
Number four, pray that they love themselves well.
The final piece of praying love over your child is praying that they learn to love themselves in a healthy way, a God-rooted way.
"Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all of your soul, and with all of your mind, and with all of your strength.
