[laughs] He- hey, I wanna take you back to a story you probably don't even remember.
It was my first year there, and I was, I was trying to be the third quarterback.
And I can never forget, I just got off the hyperextension machine right by the entrance o- of the weight room, and you walk by, and, you know, I had talked to you a little bit u- up to that point, and I remember you just kinda coming over to me and saying, "Hey, you're doing a really good job.
You got a chance to be the third quarterback on this team." And, uh, it meant so much to me.
Uh, you know, being a guy that you're, you're struggling to make the team, you don't really know what's going on, you're just trying to get through the day, trying to do what's right, make an impression, and for you as a defensive coordinator come over and say that to me, it made a huge impact and really gave me a lot of confidence going forward.
Dallas about the importance of just small little conversations to help guys as they navigate believe in themselves more a- and give them a little boost.
You were always doing that for everybody, and, and really making a big impact on guys' lives.
Well, y- you know, I, I appreciate you saying that, Chase, and, um, the, uh, the interesting thing is I, you know, with the third quarterback, as you know from being a head coach, uh, the number one responsibility that you're really being evaluated on is what kind of look you're giving the defense.
And at, and at that time, me being the defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, you know, Jimmy was always looking obviously at the quarterback some, but then w- we would have our conversation on our daily jog or walk ...
Not daily, but two or three times a week, and y- and he would bring up, you know, "Hey, you getting the look you want?" You know? "Is- how's, how's Jason doing?" And, and, and you were fantastic.
