What if a little bit of self-doubt is actually a good thing? In this episode of Building Confidence, we're talking about something I call appropriate self-doubt—that little voice that makes you stop…
Now, self-doubt comes up in different levels.
Sometimes we can have that crippling self-doubt that stops us from literally doing anything.
Like, we are so worried that we are going to get it wrong that we don't take any steps, any progress to get anywhere.
Now, our body feels like it's keeping us safe this way because if we don't make a mistake, we can't get anything wrong and we don't upset anyone.
But also, if we don't do new things, we don't learn, we don't grow, and we don't satisfy that part of ourselves that wants to learn and grow and do stuff that we're proud of.
All right? Not everyone wants to go, like, aiming to be CEO or change the world or whatever, but inside of most people, there is this little part that loves that stretch and grow and evolve part of being a human.
All right? Appropriate self-doubt.
Okay, so we don't want crippling self-doubt.
We discussed what that was, that, that inability to do anything because you're doubting yourself so much.
And we don't wanna have no self-doubt.
Absolutely none at all.
You know, maybe, maybe that's your aim.
But personally, in my world, and if you're gonna ask me how much self-doubt should I have, I wanna go for none, I would go, "Have a little bit." Like, a little bit of self-doubt can keep us safe.
That's the same thing as a little bit of anxiety can keep us safe as well.
All right? Everything in moderation.
But where self-doubt comes in at an appropriate level is to keep us safe and to keep us alert.
It's kind of that, that second-guessing that gets us to double-check.
All right? Then when we start to go into the triple, fifth check, whatever it is, then we can start say we're going a bit spirally.
