Breaking 80 Over 50 A Golf Improvement Journey
Oct 7, 2026 · 22 min · 7 segments
This week Frank was hoping to be podcasting from Pinehurst North Carolina but the Golf Gods intervened with different plans. If the golf shoe doesn't fit...acquit? No, that's not it. Unable to get out…
Identified a couple and thought, "Well, you know, if I get in next week, I feel better, I could do this, and I could go spend three days somewhere and play a lot of golf." So get into the weekend and, and it was the first time really as I get into Saturday and Sunday again, normally Saturday, Sunday I play golf.
I was not going to play because was still hobbled by the toe injury, but was able to rest, relax, keep the foot up, ice it every couple of hours, and r- really started to see some improvement to a point where I was walking better, was fine getting around in flip-flops and then my attention turned to, all right, well, we probably won't do a golf trip, but what I may be able to do is go out and play some of the courses 'cause I'm on vacation.
So I was, I was planning on having the week off and thought I'll just go out and play some of the great courses locally that I haven't had an opportunity to play.
So some of the courses on my list were PGA National, Jacaranda, Osprey, Abacoa, all great public golf courses.
Had gone online during the week, especially as a single, tee times are not that hard to come by.
So that was the plan.
Get rested over the weekend, try to heal up and get out and play some of these courses.
So again, I, I could report back on not just the course, but how my game traveled and how it held up on some of these w- what I would say are, are definitely tougher courses to play in South Florida.
So get to Monday morning, get up, toe's feeling pretty good.
Still swollen, but again, I, I'm, I'm able to get a pair of s- socks on and off, which ble- was a real challenge the, the prior week.
Anything to touch that toe was, was not good.
So around 8:00, 8:30, decided I'm gonna go out, I'm gonna go to Oriole.
I am going to play a round of golf, and if that goes well, then I will start making tee times at these other courses.
Still wearing a pair of flip-flops, golf shoes in the truck.
Get to Oriole.
Jackson stops by, grabs my golf clubs, takes them up and, uh, puts them on a cart.
And I'm like, "Yeah, I'll be right up." And as I was driving to the course, you kind of drive by the course on the road, and it just looked...
Man, was I excited to get out there.
Green, quiet, not a lot of people out there, just in great shape.
The rain had stopped, so it dried out a little bit.
And I was like, "Man, I, I, you know, again, would love to be in Pinehurst, but I just really want to get out and play a round of golf." So takes my golf clubs.
I open up the tailgate on the truck, sit on the back, and start to put my golf shoes on.
Put the golf shoe on the left foot, no problem obviously.
Go to put the golf shoe on the right foot, and it was painful.
