Del Reeves

Settle in and turn up the volume, because today we're welcoming one of country music's true originals, a singer with a rich, unmistakable voice, a storyteller who could bring America's truck stops, back roads, and everyday folks to life, and the man who gave us unforgettable hits like...

Who is the girl wearing nothing but a smile and a towel in the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway? Oh, I've been looking at the world through a windshield.

And I see everything in a little bit different light.

From the Grand Ole Opry, where we interviewed Del Reeves, to the top of the country charts, he entertained audiences with humor, heart, and songs that painted pictures of life on the open road.

His music became the soundtrack for truckers, travelers, and country music fans across America.

We're on here with, uh, Del Reeves, and, uh, at the Grand Ole Opry.

And, uh, Del just came off stage, and he sang his new song, which I think is gonna be a big hit, Del.

It sounds fantastic.

Tell us about it.

Thank you very much, Bob.

Well, you know, uh, it all happened, uh, about two months ago.

I got a new A&R man, which I've had, uh...

This, uh, incidentally, this, uh, this month of October, I spent, I have spent 10 years with United Artists, and there's a 10th anniversary album, double album coming out.

Uh, and it's already out, matter of fact.

Uh, it's just gonna be shipped next, uh, next week.

I've had about six, uh, A&R men since, uh, 10, 10 years, and I have one now that, uh, George Richey, who produces, uh, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, uh, Sonny James.

And, and I just, uh, feel great things about the song.

He found the song from, uh, uh, Buddy Killen here, who is one of the, uh, higher-ups in Tree International, and they brought it to him.

And, uh, of course, uh, uh, Bobby Braddock wrote the song, and, uh, especially for us, and brought it to us.

And, uh, I, I'm just looking for great things from it.

I hope it's gonna be as great as the expectations of everybody, uh, here in Music City.

Uh, it's called, uh, Since My Better Half Is Gone.

Uh, that sounds sad, but really, it's, it's a funny-sad song.

I was just gonna say, most country so- a lot of country songs are sad.

Uh, do you like to sing sad songs?
