334: Show Mom 411

Question number one comes from Tim.

Dale and Ryan, I have heard you guys both talk about bulldog-fronted goats.

Ryan, that would be you more than me.

I do talk about it, but you bring it up a lot.

Bowling balls and judges talking about how much wider-chested these goats are as a positive.

I'm a cattle person, and I was not sure what you were talking about.

I went over to the goat ring at a show this weekend and saw exactly this.

The goat judge was using goats that were bowing out in their front elbow.

and talking it as a positive.

This would never be accepted in other species.

My question is, is this really normal in the goat ring? Unfortunately, yes.

But it's so much better than it was two, three, four years ago.

I don't know when who started that trend.

And if I did, I would probably say very mean things to them.

But it has dialed back a lot.

But No, you are right.

In any other species, this is not considered a positive.

And yet for some judges in the goat ring, they do see it that way.

And it just baffles me.

And that's why...

For years, at least two and a half years, every goat show that I started, I started out first before I taught the first class.

Grabbed the mic, placed the class, said, okay, I'm just going to let y'all know that if y'all are one of these people that wants to be able to drive a bulldozer through the front legs of your goat, we're not going to get along today.

So y'all might want to take your goats and go home because it's not going to work out for you.

I mean, literally almost three years.

That's how I started every goat show I did.
