EP 616: Bears and Ballistics with NMO

Hunter hosted a couple buddies, uh, from Ontario.

They've been out here a few times for mule deer.

And this one just kind of came up, uh, somewhat impromptu.

We were talking about shooting and, uh, and one of our buddies has kind of a bit of a private range set up and like goes out to 1,000 yards or something like that.

Uh, and so we were talking about, you know, shooting there and, and so our buddy Travis was like, "Oh man, like it'd be sweet to come out there and just shoot sometime." And he's like, "Yeah, like maybe I come out for a few days, like come out for a long weekend and we just shoot." Jeff was like, "Well, frick, man, like why don't you just come hunt bears? Like come out in bear season and we can bear hunt." And then it was like, you know, that was at maybe 10 in the morning and by 6 PM he'd booked flights and-

... we were like, "Oh, we should probably try and see if we can get permits for a hunter host here."

Sure.

We didn't even do, we didn't even end up going to that range and shooting at all.

We just, it morphed from there into a full on bear hunt.

But I've been trying to tell him to come out for, well, probably a decade to come spring bear hunting.

But he, um, he runs, uh, he's like the regional manager of a, of a pretty big lawn care company in southern Ontario, and that's their busiest time.

Sure.

So he's always kind of said like, "No, I can't, can't make it happen.

Can't make it happen." And I think just finally he's like, "You know what? You just gotta do these things sometimes." So anyways, so the boy, so him and, uh, him and his brother, who I grew up with, um, Cam, they both came out and, and yeah, pretty quick trip like, like they were here, like they flew in Wednesday night, flew out Monday mor- or Monday like midday kind of a deal, so.

Yeah.

Nice.

Which, but I mean usually for bears, like that's plenty of time to get some action and, and we just got terrible weather.

Like I think it was a high of, uh, I don't think it ever got above 10 degrees.

Oh, no way.

We got rained on.

Yeah, rain, snow, a, a little bit of snow and hail in there too.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Um, yeah, but it was cool.
