I’m done hunting deer like everyone else. It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing — the newest tactics, the perfect setups, the latest gear, and the idea that there’s only one…
But I wanna start with like, we've turned deer hunting into a formula of some type almost.
You know, we hear find the bedding, find the transitions, find the pinch points, find the leeward ridges, find the scrapes, wait for the right ruin, wait for the rut.
And we just listened to all the advice that we're getting from people that have different experiences than we do, from people that hunt different properties than we do.
You know, sometimes I wonder if I'm finding a good hunting spot or finding what, you know, YouTube or a podcast told me what was a good hunting spot or what it's supposed to look like.
You know what I mean? So kind of my first change this year, the first thing I want to work on, I guess, we talked about goals earlier this week on the podcast.
I'm kind of piggybacking off of that podcast, kind of a continuation of that podcast.
I want to make sure that I'm always getting back to good woodsmanship this year.
You know, what did I actually see? Where did the deer actually come from and why did they come from there? Where are the tracks? What's being eaten in the woods? You know, where's the fresh sign at? What changed since last week? You know, what changed since the last time I was able to go deer hunting? And make sure I'm not going off of old information.
You know, if a trail camera tells you one thing and then the woods tells you something different, like investigate it, you know, because the trail camera, like I said before, it could be lying to you about something.
