Lightning Preview: Carlson’s Impact vs Nashville & Center Depth | Beatline Lightning

Let's start with the elephant in the room, John Carlson.

In previous episodes, we talked about how he strengthens the right side, but now we have the actual two-year deal signed.

How does that change the dynamic against a team like Nashville?

It changes everything, Nicole.

Remember, Nashville plays a heavy four check.

They want to clog the neutral zone.

With Carlson in the system, you're getting elite puck retrieval from the point.

He doesn't just dump and chase.

He controls the entry.

That takes pressure off Hedman and McDonough, allowing them to play more physically along the boards.

Right? And that's crucial because the Predators are known for their physicality.

If Tampa can bypass that first wave of pressure, they win the game early.

But what about the offensive output? Carlson isn't just a shutdown guy, he's a quarterback.

Does that open up opportunities for Kucherov and Point?

Absolutely.

When Carlson is on the ice, opposing teams have to send an extra forward to pressure him.

That creates seams in the neutral zone for Jake Gensel and Brandon Hagel to exploit.

It's about creating space.

If Nashville collapses on Carlson, the perimeter shooters get wide open shots.

That a matchup advantage Tampa needs to exploit.

I love that.

So the strategy is clear.

Use Carlson's vision to stretch the ice.

But let's talk about the other side of the puck.

The Predators have a strong power play.
