369 - Chase Gibson - Minnesota Musky Opener Preview

Typically I go sh- you know, I, I do fish...

It depends on the winters.

The last two or three winters we've had, I haven't got to fish that much in January and February.

But normally I get to fish 12 months a year.

Once my water gets hot in West Virginia, I leave and I come to Minnesota, and usually by then Minnesota's opener is already open.

The earliest I've ever been up here was Monday after opener, and that was in 2024.

So that was my first year on Leech.

And then last year I had a wedding to go to, so I didn't get here till about June 15th roughly.

And I actually ha- I honestly, I've never really been that excited to sh- I mean, I'm always excited to get to Minnesota, but it's not like what you're talking about.

But this year I came up, I've been up for four or five days I'd say.

Just been doing some walleye fishing and I actually did a walleye tournament this past weekend.

And I'll be honest, this is [laughs] I'm really excited for Saturday.

I, I know I sound crazy.

I've only got-- I've only had to wait about a week to muskie fish, but I, I know the feeling that you have.

It might not be as built up as many of the listeners, but I do have that feeling to...

I'm excited to do my Minnesota opener.

I've never done it before, and I'm excited to do actually the opener, you know?

Well, that's good.

How did the, uh, walleye fishing go for you?

It went okay.

I'm not a huge walleye fisherman.

I catch them doing...

I catch-- I always tell p- everybody, I catch them muskie fishing.

Up until Sunday, I had never caught a walleye out of Leech Lake on any live bait whatsoever.
