Jul 13, 2026 · 48 min · 9 segments
In this deeply personal episode, we share about the recent loss of our brother-in-law after his battle with cancer and reflect on what grief has taught us—not just through this loss, but through many…
[laughs] Like, we're dealing with heavy, heavy emotions.
Yeah.
And-- Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah.
I think also to set the table a little bit for this episode, we intend to talk a lot about grief because we are m- actively m- moving through a lot of it.
But I'll preface with kind of with respect to, um, Lacey and the kids.
Um, with respect to them, I don't think we're gonna go into details about their story or our brother-in-law's story or their journey.
Um, and this is gonna be more an episode just on grief because although we're moving through it in a really big way with them and with the loss of our brother-in-law, um, we also have both moved through a lot of grief just in other chapters of our life.
Um, for me, that looks like losing my brother, losing a clos- cousin I was close to, losing a grandma.
Um, but there's also the grief you've been through of the grief that comes with divorce, and there's grief that can come from heartbreak.
There's loss, loss of a future you thought you were gonna have.
There's so many ways that grief can surface in really all of our lives.
And so this episode is inspired by what we're currently moving through, but it touches grief in all of it.
It's going to touch grief in really any form that I'm sure you listening have also experienced it 'cause it is the most unfortunate part of life that we all have to go through at, at different times.
Yeah.
And it affects relationships so much [laughs] because we're all afraid of losing people.
We're all afraid of losing love.
We're all afraid of grief because it, it's so hard.
Like what I'm experience right in-- what I'm experiencing right now is psychologically confusing.
I think we talk a lot about grief.
We talk a lot about tears.
We talk a lot about the pain of the loss.
But we don't always talk about how disorienting it is, how much brain fog can come with it, how you can wake up and be fine because you forget that they're gone, or you forget that that thing happened, and then something reminds you of it.
It's like you're-- And then you feel bad for forgive-- for forgetting.
[laughs] Like, you feel bad for waking up and getting your cup of coffee and looking out at the sunrise and seeing it's beautiful and then remembering that somebody that you loved is not there to share it or see it or how affected your life is by this thing.
[laughs] Like, we're dealing with heavy, heavy emotions.
