We went to the AMTA National Convention in Denver and have loads to share! In this episode, we have the extra special treat of being joined by massage therapist and longtime friend Ericka Strodtman…
Erica StrotmanGuestI had a question for you guys too.
One of the teachers in one of the classes I took, I took a hip and knee class about surgical, post-surgical, pre-surgical.
That we all wanted to get into, but Allie got the last slot.
So, you know.
did.
I registered a little bit earlier than these ladies did.
One of the things that he said was that he kept repeating this multiple times was that he asked, do you think that your clients know what happened below their scars? Like what the actual procedure that happened behind their scars, how the mechanics of it all happened and what was done? And he kept repeating that our clients have no idea, which that has not been my experience with my clients.
I have a lot of clients who are extremely knowledgeable about their surgeries and the work that's been done.
And so I was just curious what your guys' experience has been with your clients who've had surgeries.
So it's been 50-50 for me.
So I have a lot of clients that are really educated on the anatomy, the procedure, the post-op, everything that would have to do physiologically with their surgery.
And then I have a lot of other people that know the words, but they don't understand what it means.
And then I think some people are like, it got done to me and this is it.
Which is
kind of what he was implying, that everyone's just like, it got done to me and that's what it is.
Yeah, I mean, I think that's where people start whenever they have an injury is it got done to me.
And then that is kind of your gateway to learning more about the body, learning more about managing pain and function and understanding the anatomy and underlying issues a little bit more.
So maybe your clients have had more experience.
Well, I also
wonder.
if it was a regional thing you know like maybe here in colorado people are very body aware there's a lot of athletes that i work on a lot of people that just you know they try really hard to take care of their bodies to understand what's going on a lot of really well educated people so i didn't i didn't know if that was you know part of it
I mean, I would say my demographic is the same and I don't think that education level really dictate and activity level.
