Malawi and Cameroon make 2026 WAFCON final thanks to Chawinga sisters and Michaely Bihina

Um, Algeria came into this match making a few changes.

Uh, they left Ines Khiri, who came on as a sub and scored Algeria's first goal against Côte d'Ivoire, so they left her, uh, on the wing instead of, uh, Lina Boukaha, who's been starting, uh, most of the matches for the Algerian national team.

Um, and then they also could no longer play Morgane Ikan, who-- the right back who started against Côte d'Ivoire because she picked up an injury.

Instead, they have to slot in Morgane Belkhiter, who's kind of like a starter anyway.

She started the tournament and then, uh, was benched and then, um, returned again, uh, against Côte d'Ivoire after Ikan picked up that injury.

So, a couple changes for Algeria.

Malawi pretty much unchanged, and all you really need to know from Malawi is, like, okay, do they have Faith Kanzimu and Rose Kadzerere in midfield providing the passing for that front line? And the front line is Tabitha on left, Tamwa as a striker, and Simwaka on the right.

And they did have that, and so that's pretty much Malawi's best, um, starting lineup.

Um, the-- We said the game plan in this match was gonna be Algeria's gonna try to have possession of the ball, uh, try to build up slowly, and Malawi, as soon as they get on the ball, are gonna be blindly pa- dropping passes in behind Algeria's defensive line for their strikers.

They're very quick and pacey strikers, um, to try and get in behind and have one-on-ones with the goalkeeper.

Let's just say that Algeria didn't really stick to the game plan, and Malawi followed theirs to a T. [chuckles] Um, within the first 30 seconds, Tamwa Chawinga comes to the ball, plays in a pass to, uh, Simwaka, who, uh, turns and hits the post.

I think she was trying to, um, cross it, and she hits the post.

It was offsides anyways, but that's the first warning sign, 'cause this was 30 seconds in.

Um, eight minutes in, we have a long ball that Lana Smidts, Algeria center back, just lets, inexplicably, lets go by her.

Uh, Tabitha is on it, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, shoots it wide across the face of goal.

Another warning.

Fourteen minutes in, a long diagonal that Tabitha wins.

Um, yeah, I mean, Tabitha and Morgane Belkhiter are chasing it.

Tabitha wins it.

Morgane Belkhiter falls on the floor.

Um, she puts in a cross, but it-- looking for her sister, but it's a weak cross.

Another warning.

Um, [chuckles] it's just really in the first 15 minutes, maybe this pattern of play, 15 or 16 times.

And what you see is that Algeria, it's not like Algeria were being completely dominated.

Algeria were trying to attack, but they were leaving themselves way too open.
