Start the day with Monica and a "Moment for More," where she shares why that day's pillar matters for moms, and introduces the content from the day's rundown. Today's pillar: HOBBIES! **LINKS FOR…
In today's moment for more, I wanna talk about why hobbies is an essential pillar to women feeling like themselves, moms especially.
In my welcome video, I told you about an international trip I took last year, one that really helped me in many ways reconnect to hidden layers and parts of myself that I didn't even know I had.
Well, when I came off that trip, I did the More for Moms conference the first time, and then I hit a major burnout where I knew things in my life need to shift.
I wanna see my day-to-day life reflect more of these new layers that I was uncovering about myself.
And I asked myself, "Monica, what do you need right now?" And my answers were seemingly contradictory.
This year I embarked on that third one in particular by doing something I've called My Hobby Year.
It's a personal challenge where every month I've explored a hobby, whether it's one from my past or a new one that I've always thought about and never gotten around to.
This whole year with My Hobby Year has been so interesting, and one of the weird things about it is it's been surprisingly challenging.
In taking on hobbies that I was new to, I realized that there was still this inner perfectionist who wanted to be perfect at everything before she even tried.
I've had to make some peace with discomfort, with failure, with not wanting to do the thing I decided I was gonna do that month, like an adult ballet class or learning how to sew a quilt.
And in doing so, not only was I able to persist in giving a hobby more than one single try or never even starting even though I kept saying I wanted to, I also gave myself the chance to go back to the multi-layers inside of me and reconnect in a new way, reconnect in an old way, and also discover things about me that I didn't even know were still in there.
And I think that's beautifully illustrated by a moment that I had with my daughter.
The first rehearsal for the community play where I had to sing in front of everyone, and I was terrified because even though this was a community play, one, I hadn't performed in 22 years since high school, and two, I swear all the other actors shouldn't have been in a community play, they should have been on Broadway.
And I told myself, "You just have to do your best, and not only is it okay to make a mistake or two or 10, you will.
