Babylon 5: The Shadow Within

I'm glad we've covered it.

Very much like To Dream in the City of Sorrows, which we covered last year.

It's nice to kind of expand the world of B5 in a kind of almost canon kind of way.

I think that that book was also considered canon by JMS.

The other time books around this time aren't necessarily canon at all.

So it's good to cover these ones.

Unlike the other books that we covered, though, there's nothing really new because there's a lot of mystery on what happened to Sinclair after he leaves B5.

And that's what that book covered.

So it's really good to explore that up to his return in War of our End.

This book is a bit more of a curiosity.

I did enjoy this book.

I thought it was fairly well written.

I thought the final act was pretty good as well.

Does it really offer much that we don't already know? Not really, but it's a nice kind of contextualizing the wire mythology and tying to things like messages from Earth, we've got stuff from Mars and all that kind of stuff, and weaving it into the context.

So the core story I liked.

The extra stuff around it...

Was probably unnecessary, but it's a Babylon 5 book, so you've got to get B5 in there somewhere.

Yeah.

Yeah, it was definitely a mixed bag for me.

There were elements here that I enjoyed and other elements that not so.

Yeah, I think the main story with Anna and Morden and the crew of the Icarus and all that, I found it interesting enough.

It was engaging enough as a story.

Yes, it's stuff that's kind of been covered in the show quite heavily, but, you know, kind of creating a bit more context behind the expedition itself, the Psycore's involvement in that expedition itself and the kind of stuff around it.

Most of it was quite interesting.

So I did enjoy that.
