Marta Crinejo: How An Agenda Item Moves From Dept Idea To Council Vote

How does it get there?

Okay.

So what's your favorite cuddly animal? Not a cat or a dog.

Oh, I was going to say the puppy.

I know, not a cat or a

dog.

My oldest daughter would say a llama.

I'll go with

llama.

Okay.

So say we have an organization that comes to us and says, hey, we want to work with HR because in order to help people's mental and emotional health, we think it would be a good idea for everybody to get to spend an hour a day with a llama.

Great.

We think it's a wonderful idea.

So then HR says, let's get together with legal.

We'll try and work out a contract.

They'll get all of that ironed out.

HR will say, we're going to pull money from our health benefits fund, let's say.

They work that through finance, and then they put those documents together, and then they say, okay, we're going to create our executive summary.

I, director of HR, for the mental health of all of our employees and for the betterment of the lives of our constituents, feel that all of our employees should spend an hour a day with a llama.

And here is llama rental company.

Forgive me, I love this example.

Well, I mean, you know, make it real, right? So then we say, here's Llama Rental Company, and we've entered into, we've worked out a contract negotiation with them.

So here's the contract.

Legal has created an ordinance.

Here's all our financial information showing that we have the money in the budget.
