Right.
16:29
Logos is the understanding of it's the word, it's the reasoning, it's the study.
16:33
So psychology literally means the study of the soul, and what we call psychology now is just built on philosophy and theology because we have always had this longing desire to understand the human soul, the human spirit, human nature.
16:45
And so when you start to think about how the church got there, I think why it was a secular priesthood is because, you know, it was just so new, and it was so fresh, and all of a sudden you started to see a lot of the secularism that was coming into the field of psychology, and the church didn't know what to do with it.
17:00
But I think now we've gotten to a place where, again I said, it kind of is viewed as a form of discipleship because we're starting to realize psychology's roots are just completely rooted entirely in the good news of the gospel.
17:13
Scripture, it's ancient.
17:15
What, it's always spoken to the anxious mind.

6 MINS LATER

23:17
Uh, when I hear from somebody today who's struggling with an addiction of some, some, some sort, um, pornography, internet, something that they're struggling with, what's the, what's the first move that someone can make to begin working towards healing here?
36:53
And by the way, balancing it all, it's a chore.
36:59
It most definitely is.
36:59
Like you mentioned, men's mental health, typically recognized in the month of June, but in the month of September here, it's National Suicide Prevention Month.
37:08
And it just got me thinking about some of the stats regarding men and our mental health and culture and society today.
37:14
You know, 25% of men struggle with a mental illness every single year.
37:19
Only 75% of those 25% actually receive the help, the care, the counsel.
37:24
That is required.
40:53
And it's hard to break those vices because those vices begin to mean so much to them because if all they're living in through is stress and anxiety, they've got to have some type of relief.
18:48
What are you, what are you finding? What are you seeing?
18:49
As you mentioned about the back to school thing, I think it's a little bit difficult for everybody in the family.
18:54
'Cause you think about it, everybody gets in those souther- summer rhythms, and kids are going back to school.
18:59
Families are getting outside of, you know, the, the nine to five schedule, watching the kids.
19:03
A lot of different changes, and change for...
19:05
It's hard for everybody, like you said.
19:06
A lot of excitement, some anxiety there.
21:06
Somewhere, um, there's loneliness and so much more that's just soaring in the hearts of these kids, and it's decimating them.
33:33
What we do know is the research is there, and if you can, quote, lock into topics like forgiveness, understand what it means to let something go, if you can understand what it means to be thankful, have gratitude in your life, and more— that stuff is starting to make a difference and impact overall mental health, right?
33:52
Dr. Justin Marchegiani Yes.
33:52
So, I mean, for a long time in the mental health space, I think we focused on eliminating ill-being or alleviating human suffering.
33:59
But we know this, we can't choose whether or not we will face hard times.
34:02
It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.
34:04
But at the same time, now we're trying to look at the promotional factors, what actually produces human wellness and mental health.
34:11
A lot of times we place so much stock and emphasis on the disorders and the illnesses, we don't look at what produces wellness.
36:06
insights, wisdom, direction, some new things that we're learning that can help people kind of stay this idea of how we get lost in our problems and we miss the promises and the stability and strength that comes from God.
