If we take the example of Great Replacement Theory here, it has circulated widely across far-right media and also far-right podcasts and also their online memes.

And it began... as a really fringe idea and it has gradually moved from the fringe into a broader public discourse and on the surface the theory presents itself as like cultural concerns about national identity but what embedded within it is like a deeper conspiratorial claim that demographic change and is not organic but engineered by the government and what they call the globalist elite.

So the belief that a conspiracy theory about how it is actively replacing white population, white Europeans with non-white immigrants led to a political conclusion that democracy won't stop this because democracy is part of that conspiracy.

And then the only answer is violence.

And that's exactly what the shooter in El Paso and in Christchurch, they believe.

And that's also the danger of the escalating and cultural wars today.
