People know that these are political prosecutions, right? Like from the get-go, people on the ground have seen how politicized this has been and how stacked the odds had been.

I don't think there was a surprise that basically all the sentences were maxed out, right? Like it was as high as possible.

What I think is surprising is that the judges were clear that this was because of ideology, right? That the punishment is because they want to prevent more people from joining these ideological beliefs, whatever they claim they are.

Melinda TuhusCORRESPONDENT
Was this sort of cheered in, you know, like in the mass media in Texas and among, you know, sort of regular people? Did they think this was an appropriate sentence? Is there any, you know, is there any reporting or op-eds or anything about that to get a read on the temperature of Texans' feelings about this?

How does something like that happen, and what does it say about how this prosecution is being conducted?

I think that the fact that three defendants in an extremely well-publicized media-heavy case going under the radar is very, very surprising, right? The, the attention to the Prairieland case hasn't only been from the left, it has been from the right, and locally from dozens of friends, loved ones, lawyers.

And so quietly, these three defendants were indicted in Johnson County on state level charges, right? So similar to Dario and others, never charged federally, only indicted at the state level.

But what is odd is that these indictments d- happened just now this year, months after the accusations, and it turned out that these folks actually were arrested last year.

I mean, it is normal that as a government's investigation expands, perhaps people that were arrested and released get their charges dismissed or their offenses are lowered or, you know, after a couple of months of investigation, an indictment does come down.

Heidi BoghosianHOST
And can you just briefly, uh, remind listeners about the scope of what they're facing, charges, conditions, bond amounts?

What, what's the sentences that they got? Like, what, what are we talking about here? 'Cause this is just insane to me.
