Moving on to my next question, what support systems are in place to assist legal professionals when transitioning into a judicial role, whether that's full-time or part-time?

That, I think, follows on from what we were talking about a moment ago.

Certainly, when I was first appointed as an assistant recorder, there wasn't much by way of information and opportunities to inform those who were interested.

Now, I think it is much more developed.

We have the judicial work shadowing scheme, which is there for those who are perhaps, I think, two or three years post-qualification experience.

You can apply to sit and follow a judge for two or three days in whatever jurisdiction they're sitting to get a taste of it.

We have the judicial outreach mentoring scheme, which seeks to pair potential applicants with a mentor or judge for a number of weeks.
