So I was wondering, in a shared death experience, in the middle one that you described, whether the person sharing would also be able to feel the love that the dying person is feeling.
7:15
Yeah, you really said it well there, Bob, is that these are affective experiences.
7:22
These are full of emotion and feeling.
7:25
And I actually think that they're karmic lessons in a certain way.
7:31
I think the first thing we see is...
7:36
Let's go through each of the types because I think they actually serve different purposes.
7:42
So if you take the first type where the experiencer sees the review of their life together with the person transitioning.

So tell us about that.

So tell us about that.

Why would a living person experience any part of someone else's death in the first place? William says there isn't a definitive answer, but one pattern that appears repeatedly in the cases he studied is the relationship between the two people.
5:24
There's a really important element in the shared death experience, and that is the bond.
5:29
Usually the bond between the experience and the person dying is quite strong.
5:33
So often with spouses or parents with children, siblings, close friends.
5:41
But there's also something else that's quite striking.
5:44
Sometimes these relationships are quite strained.
5:48
And in some cases, the shared death experience serves to heal people.

And in a remote shared death experience, they might not even be anywhere near the person who is dying.
3:00
So first, can you define what a shared death experience is?
3:03
A shared death experience occurs when somebody dies and a caregiver, loved one, and in some cases just a bystander, reports that they somehow shared in, either knew about or witnessed, in some cases even accompanied the dying person into the initial stages of the afterlife.
3:27
And what they tend to report is that this experience of human death is a journey.
3:34
In other words, the dominant motif is journey.
3:36
They see or experience their departing loved one moving along, progressing through what we loosely call an...
3:47
the afterlife, and it's often a process of ascension.
3:51
It's often moving towards a light.

But in a shared death experience, the person reporting the experience isn't dying, and in a remote shared death experience, they might not even be anywhere near the person who is dying.
8:17
You trained as a medium, is that right?
8:20
Well, I lived, I lived with John of God in the John of God community in Brazil, and so this is how I can tie this all together.
8:28
So as a result of this high-speed skiing accident, I crushed my spine.
8:32
My lumbar, lower lumbar spine, uh, was compression fractured in, uh, three spots, and I was in an excruciating amount of pain.
8:42
Uh, lu- I was lucky not to be paralyzed in any way.
8:46
However, I was very restricted in my physical activity.
8:49
I could really only walk, um, and even that, over time, became painful.

Well, can you tell us about the Shared Crossing Project?
4:17
You can find out more at sharedcrossing.com. Here's William Peters.
4:22
I am a psychotherapist by training.
4:24
I work at the Family Therapy Institute in Santa Barbara, California.
4:28
I'm a senior staff member there.
4:30
I specialize in end-of-life counseling, and I also have worked as a transpersonal, a psychotherapist, and that is the people with spiritual issues primarily relating to extraordinary experiences.
4:46
Currently, our medical system and healthcare system doesn't have an accurate perception of what's really going on for people.
4:54
I should also say I am an experiencer.
