But when we connected, thanks to that post on Facebook, what were you up to?
1:15
So at the time I was starting a road trip from, as you said, from Melbourne, coming back up to Gladstone in Queensland.
1:25
And along the way, taking pictures and collecting stories of sacrifice and the project was called Sacrifice.
1:33
And that was the first leg of a project that eventually lasted while it's actually still going.
1:38
I photographed somebody yesterday.
1:39
The basic principle is I would turn up, obviously meet up with people.
1:44
Most of the time they were complete strangers or they may have been recommended by the other acquaintances um i would turn up our conversation with them set up a backdrop which was always the same systematically uh as it's an old um military tarpaulin and then i would um photograph them with a film camera um which i can show you in a second and the the principle was that the photograph was only part of it it's almost like you know clickbait is to to to get people to to come and read the story because the story is really what mattered.

And I'm sure you do it just down the street waving to somebody without thinking about it.
