My poems tended to be interested in what I would call defamiliarizing metaphors.

I was very interested in the way in which a poem can capture images in the world at the moment we first apprehend them when they're slightly unfamiliar, slightly, you know, you see something and then there's a lag time.

It's just maybe a quarter second between seeing it and your mind making sense of it.

And I was interested in often through metaphor trying to like capture that moment of the thing seeming slightly unfamiliar.

And, uh, what are some of the, I think often the work that doesn't land with me feels like it's only three quarters committed to what it's doing.

How close, how far into a grass flat or how close to the deeper water do you want to be?

You know, there are times during high tide that, you know, I'll move way back, you know, way up on flats and stuff because those fish will migrate back in there.

But, man, those fish got a lot more scents than what most of the people that are chasing them have.

And, you know, they can tell when that water starts dropping and they'll start pulling out.

So, you know, I kind of, you know, if I've got a high tide, a condition where, you know, the water is really puffed up, you know, I always, I'll go to the very back.

I mean, I'll get up in some really skinny, skinny water.

And it's amazing.

And, uh, I was on an eight AM flight, and we had, uh, about eighteen ATF people there working side by side with Puerto Rico police, uh, squad and, uh, FBI.

Ninety-seven people died in that hotel.

Eighty-seven of them were all stacked right in front of one thirty-six inch doorway trying to get out of the casino.

So it, it's pretty horrific when you see a pile of eighty-seven people with varying degrees of burn.

They weren't super charred.

Uh, I don't wanna get too gross.
