Okay, so here's question two: Why can't they just pull over? So a common question motorists ask when they're stuck behind farm machinery is, "Well, why can't the driver just pull onto the shoulder and let everyone pass?" Anybody wanna take this one?

W.P. JohnsonGUEST
I'll say from my perspective, uh, most of my equipment is 15, 16, 17, 18 feet wide, um, generally 25 to, uh, 100,000 pounds.

W.P. JohnsonGUEST
If I pull off on the side of the road, I go down, I turn over, the possibilities of, of foreign objects, whether that be glass bottles or steel or anything else, can puncture a tire and cause even more problems.

W.P. JohnsonGUEST
So I'm glad to pull over if there's a safe, uh, large space for me to pull off of so that people can go by, and I do that on a regular basis if I'm going very far.

W.P. JohnsonGUEST
Um, however, just to do it at any place is not wise, smart, safe, or could cause a bigger catastrophe, uh, especially in, in my equipment operation, um, that, you know, would involve tow trucks and police and, you know, massive delays, and I don't wanna create that for anybody else.

W.P. JohnsonGUEST
I wanna be on and off the road as fast as possible to let everybody else move on, and then me get to my farming operation.
