Could you walk us through what evidence shows about sodium intake and blood pressure and what clinicians should take away from
9:37
it? Yeah, thanks.

Thanks, Jan.

So sodium is one of the most consistently studied dietary factors in relation to blood pressure, but it remains still very challenging to measure accurately.
9:51
Most people significantly underestimate how much sodium they consume a day, which is why in order to get a good idea of your sodium consumption, we have to measure 24-hour urine sodium excretion.
10:07
This is basically considered the gold standard for assessing sodium intake based on the concept that the amount of sodium that you excrete in the urine is equivalent to the amount you've eaten.
10:21
Obviously, it's not completely one-to-one, but the urine 24-hour sodium is a very good measure of that.
13:47
So let me stay with you as we explore where sleep enters this picture and why it matters for blood pressure control.
