What is it like when you're going through that competition Britain's Got Talent? Are you very much in a bubble? I think

until it happens you don't actually realise what it is.

I did think I was a bit naive in thinking to myself oh I've got the golden buzzer that'll be it now and we had to keep quiet for like six months so nobody could know anything about it so I had auditioned, got the Golden Buzzer and I went back to my normal job and I was thinking to myself I just got the Golden Buzzer, I've signed with Cowell and Britain's Got Talent and it's going to be aired in six months time and nobody has a clue so obviously I'm quite good at that, I was quite good at keeping calm about it my mum on the other hand was not she's like that neighbour you get that goes what happened, what happened so where I live we've got an ice cream van that comes around like the local area and I remember going to the ice cream van and then I got a loaf of bread for my dad and I like I went to take the bread I think the guy grabbed it and he said Vinnie he went well done on the golden buzzer and I went how do you know and he went your ma taught me yesterday and I was like oh my ma does kind of keep her mouth shut and then she goes to the bingo four nights a week as well every single person in the bingo knew about it before it even aired on the telly so I tried to keep it a secret as best as I could but yeah it was the hardest six months keeping that a secret but then when it aired on the telly that's when everything changed How did things change? it changed overnight like I went to bed and woke up the next morning I never really had social media prior so I had like two followers and then the next morning all these people were following me I had people messaging me people were stopping in the street I had queues for like I would sell bingo in the holiday park and I thought that was a queue for the bingo and people were just like can I have a picture with you and I was thinking to myself this is a bit bizarre I would go on a night out and I couldn't really go on a night out because people would be like oh can you sing us a song I remember going back to where I lived to visit my mum and dad and there was just balloons everywhere they were like my face on them and I was thinking to myself this is mad but where I'm from people will never big you up that's a good thing which I think kept me really grounded because I could go to the pub with my pals and they'd be like you're doing well keep it up and everything would just be normal we would have a drink and that would be it I think when you're going through supermarkets or like you go to like another part of the country for like a rehearsal for the show and people will just stop me in the street like because they watched it that was definitely overwhelming it was a lot lovely because it was nice to see that people were supporting and that they enjoyed it but it was a lot sometimes you did feel that you just wanted to lock your daughter and sleep for a week because it was it was a lot when you were there and then I had to leave my job because it just got far too much I had the press waiting at the gates in the holiday park and I would begin into work and they'd be like can we ask you some questions and we were told strictly by the team at Britain's Got Talent that we couldn't speak anything about the show or what we're doing or what's coming up and I couldn't speak to the press and that's when I really had to warn my mum because I thought if anybody knocks on my mum's door and says to her what's he singing next she'll be like but she did well and she would get stopped as well because they were obviously my mum and my dad were obviously on the TV as well so my dad would be up the pub with his pals and they'd be like oh like talking about the show and they enjoyed it it was a great experience for us and then when I went to the semi-final that's when it got really big it was the most viewed semi-final of the whole series and I took the full majority of the votes for the for winning that semi-final which was bizarre to me but I did a completely different version of Chasing Cars and I was worried it wasn't going to pay off I was trying to keep myself calm backstage I knew there was six and a half million people watching so I was like I need to make sure this is right it's on YouTube for life if I mess it up it's going to be there when when I'm an old man I'm going to be watching it going I wish I didn't sing it like that and there was a wee boy he was a magician and he was meant to be on before me and he completely pulled out the show while it was live on air so I was standing backstage getting myself ready and the producer came and went you're on next and I was like what? and he was like yeah you're on next he was like Teddy the magician's pulled out and I was like oh my god what am I going to do so they mic'd me up and they just threw me on the stage and it was an ad break at the time and I remember the lights coming up and the ad had finished and they went Vinnie McKee and I stood there and I thought what am I going to do and I just looked down at Simon Cowell I could see his face and he just went And I thought, right, I'm just going to go for it.

And luckily, I got a standing ovation for the judges.

I mean I reckon if we I reckon if we took him to London he would have went on a drink bender and we wouldn't have seen him for three days but he loved to party but I reckon that he would have loved it he would have been telling all his pals he would have
