How do inhaled corticosteroids reduce airway inflammation over time?
8:28
So when you have asthma, there's two things happening.
8:31
There's the bronchial spasm, there's tightening of your airways, but there's also underlying inflammation.
8:37
And so what the inhaled corticosteroids do, they reduce those inflammatory markers, cytokines, eosinophils, the mucus production, swelling and what's going on in your airways.
8:49
So the inhaled corticosteroids, they attack the inflammation part, which a lot of times people don't recognize is the underlying condition that they need to be treating when they're having asthma or acute flare.
9:02
The inhalers, which are, you know, the different kinds and then the beta agonists, what they do is they sort of cause the smooth muscles to relax, which then leads to the airways to open up and air flow a lot easier and better.
9:19
But the inflammation is still there.
