At the time, you know, it was a tiny board, a tiny organisation, fledgling, just starting to have an impact on a really critical area.

And...

Just by chance, actually a former colleague of mine said to me, oh, you know, you'd be great, will you join? So I said, and of course, totally unpaid.

I think it gave me such great experience.

Was it a deliberate strategy or did your boards evolve organically? A bit of both.
