But what are you struggling with? Because it looks from the outside, you look so happy.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
And I have this constant thing in the back of my mind where I'm like, don't burn out, take care of yourself.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
You know what I mean? Because it's so easy to just launch yourself 120% into everything and not take care of yourself.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
And especially, like you said, when you're building your own business and it's your baby, you put all your money and all your time and your reputation in it and then like a factory like a warehouse messes up and lets you down and it's like not even in your control and you're the one who has to pick up those pieces like literally the times like it's been a friday saturday night and i'm up at like 3 a.m emailing like warehouse providers and labs and this and that i feel like um people on the outside think it's really glamorous but i like it it's really hard and like at the same time you're just working 24 7 on your dream

Payman LangroudiHOST
you said money time reputation out of those which is the one that that bothers you the most? Like if you lose your money, lose your time, lose your reputation, is reputation the one that bothers you?

Busyness is an interesting phrase, isn't it? I think active is a word I would use, sometimes feeling squashed, however, enjoying every minute.

Can you tell me a little bit more about that? I mean, who's reading these reports? How does this influence, quote, official policy such as it is?
V
7:51Victoria SampsonGUEST
Yeah, I mean, that's a really good question because it's always hard to say, you know, we did X and Y happened.
V

And so you have to be like long term, you know, hey, we've been talking about this issue using this language for this many years and we're starting to see it being echoed and how, you know, government officials refer to it or things like that.
V

But I mean, really and truly, you know, we work not with, but, you know, I think people who read our reports and we interact with, I should say, are people from the State Department, both the side that works on civil space and that works on security space, the DOD, the Office of Space Policy, NOAA.

Obviously, I'm familiar with that term, but tell us a bit more about actually what that is and, and what sort of impact is it having on our patients.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
So your oral microbiome is the second largest microbiome after your gut, so it's made up of over 700 different bacteria, and, uh, those 700 bacteria make up two billion bacteria overall.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
It's obviously the gateway to the rest of your body, and the oral microbiome has been associated, like I said, to over 50 systemic conditions.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
So when the oral microbiome is in balance or symbiosis, that basically means that there's a really nice delicate balance of good and actually some bad bacteria as well.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
And in 2008, the Human Oral Microbiome Project came out, and that was through the Forsyth Institute.

And what's your belief there? I know this research is fairly new, but do you think there is a, a causal relationship, a significant causal relationship between the health of our oral microbiome and our probability of developing some form of cancer?

Victoria SampsonGUEST
I think that for most cancers, it is multifactorial and there are a lot of things that can impact whether or not you get the cancer and how aggressive the cancer is.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
Um, I do think that oral health and some specific oral bacteria, um, are risk factors and can definitely increase the, um, aggression of those cancers or even the initiation of them.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
Um, there's also been research, and I think I'm waiting for the research to be published, on what they're doing is they've created a antibiotic which only kills that oral bacteria that I was talking about, so Fusobacterium nucleatum.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
And they are going to be issuing that, uh, antibiotic to those patients who have the colorectal cancer which has the oral bacteria to see whether or not it slows down their progression or improves their, their prognosis.

Victoria SampsonGUEST
So if I see those results and it shows it, then there's, for sure, a strong causative link between the two.

If someone's now curious about their oral microbiome and the work that you're doing, what is the sort of easiest entry point to learn more, to get themselves checked, or to, I don't know, to resolve some of the issues that are causal or a- a consequence of having a unhealthy microbiome? Where- where do they start? How do they find you?
