Are there any things that they particularly should be looking for, such as they had heard about the cold startup test? Should they do
5:01
that? I don't know about a cold startup test.
5:05
If we're looking at vehicles over the weekend, and it really depends on if you're at a lot or buying a private party, but if we're on a lot, Those cars just sit.
5:15
They sit out there for a reason because they're waiting to be sold.
5:19
So like our battery constantly needs to be charged.
5:22
So if you go to try and start the car and it doesn't want to start, that wouldn't scare me necessarily because that battery, there's a pretty high probability it's dead just because the car has been sitting.
5:32
It doesn't mean there's something wrong with it though.

Is there anything that you say are red flags when looking at that?

Do I need to replace both struts, both fronts? Do I need to replace all four struts? What say you, Vern?
0:33
Well, when it comes to the struts on a vehicle, we have to remember that the purpose of that is to also help us maintain our ride height.
0:40
And it really depends on how you're approaching replacing the strut.
0:44
Can you get away with just replacing the one? If I'm doing just the cartridge, I would say yes.
0:49
If I'm doing the complete assembly where it comes with the spring attached to it, then I would say it's probably not going to be a good idea.
0:57
When it comes to one, two, or four, if I do just two, we might end up with a lopsided vehicle, meaning that that vehicle has been sagging the weight of the vehicle on the springs over the past however long it's been on the road, and now I put brand new stuff in there and it raises up the one end of the vehicle.
1:18
So it's kind of a little bit of a snowball effect.

Speaking of like, you know, taking good care of our vehicles and car maintenance, if a person does need to get work done, is there a rule of thumb like a person should be asking this, this, and that? Are there some things that people should ask their mechanic just to make sure they're all, you know, kind of on the up and up?
