Tyson Bagent

Chicago Bears quarterback

Oct 4, 2026

1:28
How do you feel about the performance?
1:30
I felt like it was good, wasn't great.
1:32
Hats off to the big boys up front, being able to maintain drives like that, hold the ball for as long as we did.
1:38
Hats off to the defense, being able to shut them down like that.
1:41
0 for 7 on third down, that was great to see.
1:44
Going into the game, we knew the Jets like to hold on to the ball.
1:46
We had to take advantage of every job.

5 MINS LATER

7:14
By the way, Drew Brees was giving you a lot of love.

18:32
There's
18:33
no one, right? There's no one in the chat who's like, shit, I wish my mom would have aborted me.
18:41
I bet you there's people in the chat, though, for sure, whose parents thought about aborting them.
18:49
Hey, chat.
18:51
Clips are echoing spam in the chat.
18:53
Oh, are they echoing?

22:25
Bajan, ladies and gentlemen.
22:27
Yes sir.
22:28
How you doing, Tyson? I'm great.
22:30
Thank you guys for having me.
22:31
Thanks for being here, man.
22:32
It means a lot to us.

29 MINS LATER

51:08
This
44:05
The, the, the throw to, to Zayveon, how long did you know that that was gonna be the first play of the game?
44:11
Uh, I knew for about one, one day in advance.
44:15
So Ben, Ben gave us a heads-up.
44:16
We were gonna run three deep balls, uh, starting with two double moves and then just a go ball against the same guy, whoever lined up in the boundary.
44:24
We were gonna run a stutter go, which is the one we scored on.
44:27
Then Caden Davis was gonna come into the game.
44:29
We were gonna run an out and up.
46:00
Well, what, what, what were you, let's go, what are you most proud of yesterday?
53:06
Well, it's perfect that you brought that up, because Tyson Bagent also discussed what Ben Johnson is like during team meetings.
53:15
He does a fantastic job.
53:16
You know, you talk about public speaking, he's as good as they come.
53:19
Um, and I haven't, I've, he, since he's been there, I haven't been a part of a, of a weird team meeting.
54:49
He continued to discuss how contagious Ben Johnson's leadership can be for the Bears.
54:53
I just think people g- uh, usually gravitate towards, uh, whoever the hardest workers are.
54:57
And, you know, when the hardest workers on your team are You know, f- well, first off, you want your best players to be your hardest workers.
55:04
That usually can have a trickle effect, uh, through the, through the roster.
5:25
Do you think about it? I know how much you love learning under Ben Johnson and developing and all the things that you're talking about, but do you still think in the back of your mind, how do you sort of that dichotomy of being a backup but probably thinking you could be a starting quarterback in the NFL as well?
5:39
Yeah, I just think about it like I am the starter, which is, I think, kind of how you have to think about it.
5:45
If you think about anything less than that, you're probably not going to be as prepared as you would have been if you had that thought process.
5:54
Yeah, I don't even like you bringing up the fact that I'm the backup.
5:57
Okay, I like that.
5:58
I don't even like answering this question.
6:00
But no, I'm also kind of half kidding.
10:31
He continued to discuss how contagious Ben Johnson's leadership can be for the Bears.
10:04
Like, how, like the connection you guys are building, 'cause that, it's one thing to hit a guy in stride, but then the back shoulder requires a little different touch, timing, and understanding of each other.
10:15
Yeah, I mean, I, you know, unless it's, unless the drop-off is significant, every time I'm throwing to somebody, I, if I'm deciding to, you know, like I said, unless there's a huge drop-off, I'm trusting you and, uh, with however I'm gonna put the ball.
10:30
You know, my job is to let you touch it.
10:32
Other than that, you know, now it's, it's up to you now.
10:35
We're gonna see, you know, what you're good at, what you're not good at.
10:38
Um, so Caden Davis has just done a good job.
10:40
I've never thrown him a back shoulder pass until that one.

7 MINS LATER

17:16
So what's that been like to try to navigate through all the successes and now there's things n- that haven't necessarily gone exactly the way you want when you know how important this time of year is for you?
speaker_3CORRESPONDENT
69:40
Tyson, how'd it feel out there today, first half? Give your assessment.
69:43
Yeah, I think, uh, as far as the assessment goes from a personal level, I think it's, uh, nowhere close to my standards, especially how we started off.
69:51
Um, you know, going into this first preseason game, thinking back to the first preseason game last year, we had two three-and-outs, and then I threw a touchdown a hard time, so I'm like, "Hey, let's just start a little bit faster than that," and then we had two three-and-outs, and then I threw a touchdown a hard time.
70:05
So hopefully next year when preseason one rolls around, we can, uh, change that up a little bit.
70:10
But, um, I thought we did a great job of staying the course.
70:14
Second quarter, obviously, there were a lot of explosive plays within that quarter.
70:18
Thought Kayden Davis did a great job running fast.

1 HR 59 MINS LATER

189:18
So what's that been like to try to navigate through all the successes and now there's things n- that haven't necessarily gone exactly the way you want when you know how important this time of year is for you?
20:27
Do you see that? Do you see that in two days? Do you see that in practice? No.
20:32
Oh yeah, I mean, not that I have felt any of those feelings of like slowing down or anything like that to where I'm starting to break down or anything.
20:45
But I mean, I have noticed, too, even being like a 26 year old athlete still playing at like the highest level.
20:52
It is like your body does start to not like it doesn't feel bad.
20:55
You could just tell things are changing.
20:57
And then you look at you look at guys like, you know, you got Case Keenum.
21:01
He's 37.

14 MINS LATER

34:59
What does that look like?
31:25
Right
31:25
...
31:25
it is, uh, it opens my eyes on why more teams, especially, like, the people handling, you know, the pieces, the, the GMs and stuff like that, don't ride it out with, uh, some of these coordinators, uh, just because you can see right now, because the only thing I can compare, uh, last year to is just the time that we've been here this year compared to OTAs last year.
31:46
And just the, uh, the level we're at now compared to we were, where we were last year, the level of execution, the level of understanding of why we're running what we're running, uh, has made everything a lot more smoother.
31:57
And we've been able to, uh, right now it feels like we're running the plays that we ran in summer camp during OTAs, so then by the time we get to camp, we'll be running what we were running at the beginning of the season, you know, instead of having, you know, to play catch-up.
32:12
Now I just feel like we can be more on attack.
32:14
You have a better understanding of what Ben is calling these plays for, uh, and you can see that on the tape when you compare it to from last spring, uh, to this spring.
32:41
So how much have you grown under Ben Johnson and all the coaches in that offensive building?
7:02
It must feel so much better right now.
7:04
Absolutely.
7:04
I mean, and especially when you, um, you know, you walk into a new staff, obviously the scheme's different.
7:10
Everything's different, but also they're different.
7:12
You don't really know them yet, so you have no relationship.
7:14
Um, and I think that's been the biggest thing is people being able to take strides, 'cause they're not scared to ask a question that might seem stupid.
7:22
So I think that that's something I've, I've noticed too, where guys are more inclined to ask their, the coach questions when they know that, you know, that coach is coming from a good place and, um, all that.

11 MINS LATER

18:29
[laughs]
32:40
[laughs]
32:40
Third or fourth Chicago, uh, spring camp that we're doing, offensive skill only.
32:44
We are not messing with the defense.
32:46
Do not come if you play defense.
32:47
We're offense, strictly offense.
32:49
May 22nd, May 23rd.
32:51
Um, on the 22nd we're at Glenbrook, Glenbrook North, like you said, at 7:00 PM.
37:00
Did you feel, like, uncomfortable maybe the first year?
41:40
It must feel so much better right now.
41:42
Absolutely.
41:42
I mean, and especially when you, um, you know, you walk into a new staff, obviously the scheme's different.
41:48
Everything's different, but also they're different.
41:50
You don't really know them yet, so you have no relationship.
41:52
Um, and I think that's been the biggest thing is people being able to take strides 'cause they're not scared to ask a question that might seem stupid.
42:00
So I think that that's something I've, I've noticed, too, where guys are more inclined to ask their, the coach questions when they know that, you know, that coach is coming from a good place and, um, all that.

10 MINS LATER

52:07
[laughs]
10:08
I heard Caleb say like, "Oh, I take a few weeks off." Like, so I'm curious for you personally, have you had to learn or adjust here through the years on, you know, how dialed in you are this time of year? Or, or is this your opportunity this time of year to kind of get a leg ahead of others?
10:28
Yeah, I would say that there, that that's probably the lens that I look through, um, that I look through the most, is just like this is an opportunity to up my game.
10:38
Um, and it's not like I played the season and am beat up.
10:42
So there was really nothing.
10:43
I didn't hurt myself at all.
10:45
Um, I had no ailments heading into the off-season.
10:48
Um, I do take like the first couple months of the off-season to just live my life kind of how I would if I didn't play football, which is wake up, stretch, do a horrible CrossFit workout, and then hang out with my friends and family all day.

8 MINS LATER

speaker_4UNKNOWN
18:36
[laughs]
46:17
get
46:18
mentally ready to try and run away from a guy like that.
46:22
So it would be Monday is usually a day after the game.
46:26
We get in there.
46:28
do a flush workout, treatment day, you know, watch the film, make corrections, and then you have usually a good portion of the day off.
46:36
You usually get done that day around 2 p.m.
46:39
Going into off day on Tuesday, that would just be massage day.

5 MINS LATER

52:10
If you go out there and ask scared, like no one's going to listen to you.
5:55
That had to be a little bit of a crazy moment for you.
6:00
Man, you know, I don't.
6:03
Being a backup is a weird situation.
6:05
It's the best job in the world.
6:06
However, like you just said, you have to be ready when your number is called.
6:11
Obviously, we have the most durable human being that has ever existed in the history of the world at the helm of the Chicago Bears right now.
6:19
I mean, I think he's got a record-breaking number of starts in a row.

9 MINS LATER

15:40
How much of an adjustment is it with the wind for quarterbacks, like throughout a game, if you're not used to it?
64:58
That had to be a little bit of a crazy moment for you.
65:02
um man you know i don't being a backup is a weird situation it's the best job in the world however like you just said you have to be ready um when your number is called obviously we have the most durable human being that has ever existed in the history of the world at the helm of the chicago bears right now i mean i think he's got a record-breaking number of start number of starts in a row um So, but I mean, yeah, I mean, I didn't, I don't know what your man was looking at.
65:32
I do the same thing every drive.
65:36
I get ready to go.
65:38
So maybe that's just a lack of whoever you're talking about right there, lack of attention to detail.
65:43
But yeah, I'm constantly staying warm, making sure I'm ready because you know even though you know it's been a minute um gotta be ready to go there can't be you know I can't go in there and it looks different so just trying to stay ready uh always not not just at that moment but you know he did he was gimping I didn't see what happened I but looked at the film twisted his ankle just looking at him I I imagine something catastrophic happened for him to be limping like that but You know, he's got Wolverine blood in him.
66:14
And five minutes after that, he seemed like he was back to 110%.

7 MINS LATER

73:36
how much of an adjustment is it with the wind uh for quarterbacks like throughout a game if you're not used to it uh
20:13
Yeah, I would say I did get a lot of my dad.
20:16
I'm noticing that as I get older.
20:18
I think I have a good mixture of him and my mom.
20:22
And I think outside of football, I tend to go a little bit more my mom's route.
20:27
But as far as what my dad has kind of ingrained in me, it's just kind of like what we just talked about.
20:33
Just, hey, who out here is going to go the hardest? And who out here cares the most? and just energy, energy, energy, chest out.
20:42
That's always something that he was kind of spewing to me as I was growing up.
22:14
in your opinion?
