The Flush: Ep 368 – The Heart of Hunting Season

You know, we do have to talk a little bit about the strategy that goes into this, though, because...
T

And I'm positive that part of the reason that Nate struggled so much is because it changes pheasant hunting so much by doing it this way.
T
56:28Tyler WebsterGUEST
Because when a pheasant gets up, like, you have... considerably more time admittedly than you do in the rough grouse woods to identify the bird as a rooster or hen identify the length of the tail then put a shot on the bird and kill it because we're hunting these things in very very very thick cover and everybody understands like the strategy even goes all the way down to which dogs you're going to run together like i ran jesse with the with mojo nate's draught because mojo's a fantastic retriever jesse not so much so I'm positive that is what was going on with Nate is he got so focused on looking because we passed on a lot of birds early.
T
57:08Tyler WebsterGUEST
You know, we'd had a lot of those tails, you know, the foot long, 14 inch long tails that would get up in front of us.
T
57:13Tyler WebsterGUEST
It would be fully plumed out roosters, but they weren't birds that were going to do us any good.

Upland Heavyweights

And I got some, I don't know if you're familiar with them or not, but they sent me some stuff last year and they just kind of wanted me to product test a little bit, like never talked about it on podcasts or anything else.
T

I get like, we got a little bit of a partnership deal worked out for this year, but Rocky talkies.
T
5:47Tyler WebsterGUEST
Have you ever used those or heard of them? What are they again? They're expedition radios or, I mean, walkie talkies, but they're telling me about those.

The Flush: Ep 326 – Early Field Reports from Bird Country
T
25:31Tyler WebsterGUEST
Um, the lek survey is more important to me than the, than the, the crow counts.
T
25:36Tyler WebsterGUEST
Um, the, the lek survey is, they have these established leks all over the state of North Dakota.
T
25:42Tyler WebsterGUEST
The Game and Fish go out there and observe how many, how many sharptails come there year over year.
T
25:46Tyler WebsterGUEST
And, uh, last year, I know our broods, or our sharptail population was down something like 35, 36%.

A New Season of The Flush

After, like, now that I, I've done a couple of these episodes, I had the hardest time actually kind of putting together the script and stuff for this one because it's literally just me and my friends doing what we do all the time.
T
59:41Tyler WebsterGUEST
I mean, we had, uh, hundreds of birds on every walk that were getting up in front of us.
T
59:52Tyler WebsterGUEST
But, um, you know, we'd started talking about wanting to do something like that, and we got, you know, we got three friends, core friends that are in the episode, plus George and Wes, who are also obviously friends.
