Hmm

...

these are really broad and undefined terms that, you know, there's not a black-and-white definition of what the national interest is, right? And again, there's, there's gonna be a common theme in this conversation that there's the, the interpretation of what advances the national interest in the Trump administration is probably very different from what the Biden administration thinks advances the national interest, uh, or, or thought advanced the national interest.
8:38
Um, so there, there's, there's a lot of discretion for interpretation and that these political appointees would have essentially unilateral power to say yes or no, and there's not really any safeguards for, uh, them to have to notify applicants if their application gets rejected or really, uh, to, to have an appeals process.
8:57
So people may be, uh, being rejected for, for applications despite being perfectly qualified for them, uh, because an administration in power may not agree, you know, politically or ideologically with what their mission is.
9:12
Um, and, and we've got a lot of concerns about that.
9:15
Um, beyond that, there, there are also provisions in there that allow, uh, the executive agencies to cancel or change grant terms, uh, mid-award, uh, that, that they have a power that they have not fully had, uh, previously, at least to the extent they, they would under this, uh, under this proposal.
