That explains why both Tracy and Max quickly became connected to this place.

I grew up in the Midwest, and when I came to the Delta and I looked around at the landscape, the oak trees and the willows and the flowing rivers, the greenery, I was reminded of where I grew up.

There's a small semblance of the Midwest here, the flatlands, the farms, and I had a connection to it, and I thought this could be a good home for me.

I've been here for nine months.

I have not been through all of the seasons here, but throughout the winter when the tule fog came in and then the sun's trying to break through that fog and to see hundreds of snow geese on a field being lit up by that sun, it was just such a beautiful sight.

I asked Tracy about what state park interpreters do in the Delta.

Our job as interpreters are to invite people to these spaces and to invite them to become comfortable by experiencing them in a variety of ways and to look beyond what they see in front of them to use their senses to connect them to something deeper or something in the timeline of the Delta that has happened before them or our hopes for the future and to ask them to care a little bit more and to see the Delta for its problems but also its victories.
