Why does the country need a Language Act? Is it a cultural preservation exercise?

You know, it took 13 years of different programs, etc., and then it became part of the Act which was decided or passed in Parliament in 2021 and entered into force in 2022.

And we have had other acts regulating language, especially the two language varieties and how they shall be used in the public sector.

But this was an opportunity to gather the entire language policy, which had not been in legislation before, not all of it.

There is a section on the Scandinavian languages, for instance.

A person can write to Norwegian public agencies in Swedish or Danish.
