It was about an hour long in total and really emphasizing the focus of team collaboration and communication, interdepartmental communication via phone, as well as from the scene to dispatch to the hospitals and kind of coordinating the care and the delivery of patients.
18:03
Yeah, the way I kind of treat this, other than just the huge amount of learning that the learners got from it, As a department here, we kind of treat it almost like our Apollo moon missions.
18:16
It's our big, we have a year to get this done.
18:20
This is the vision.
18:21
And all of those huge challenges that we're able to overcome with collaborating with other industries, engaging partners like yourselves to support with video recording, all the ambulance services, fire, and other companies to pull off this one huge event.
18:40
It builds a lot of the innovation side of things for us internally and pushes the barriers of what we can actually deliver as part of a simulation activity.
18:52
even after that and something we're working on now to bring it kind of back to the video portion of it.

11 MINS LATER

29:31
Can you tell us a little bit about the simulation center itself?
15:48
[laughs] Um, so Tom, from your perspective, what moments really stood out in terms of student learning or impact, would you say?
15:58
When it comes to role clarity and respect for other roles and professions, that was huge to see.
16:05
These-- A lot of the times, this is the first time the students at NAIT are actually interacting with nurses and doctors for the first time.
16:11
So seeing how they worked together as a team, it definitely started as a group of 60 individuals that didn't really know each other.
16:20
But by the end of the 90 minutes, you could see them functioning as a really competent team, which was really cool to see for me.
16:26
Uh, seeing some of the coaching from the plants that were in the simulation, so we had Strathcona Fire there, and seeing them work with the paramedic students on moving and handling patients to extract them from the scene, I know the students got a ton from that experience.
21:05
Mm-hmm
21:05
... and it's taken a lot of intentional effort seeking out those opportunities to help other people out.
