men come on the program and talk about why there are not so many asian women for example in the sport and so i have spoken with people from the black community from different immigrant communities about what is it that we can do to try and make triathlon more welcoming what is it that we can do to try and make the bar to entry a little bit lower and i wonder from your perspective number one you've talked so glowingly about the triathlon community have you yourself felt welcomed and have you ever experienced any of that racism that you've experienced that you've experienced in the rest of your life and the second part of that question is what do you think we can do to make the sport more welcoming to your community and to other communities at large that maybe are underrepresented because unfortunately we know triathlon remains predominantly a white male sport

Over the last 20 years, I've seen an evolution of triathlon, which I'm very happy about.

One of the simple things I like to say is it used to be there weren't that many women on the course, and a woman would pass you on the bike, and you would see a dude who's still trying to make his high school basketball team, who's still angry about everything, get mad that the woman passed him and tried to pass her back, and they get in this weird passing battle, and he's just being a jerk when she's just trying to have a good race.

I don't see that anymore, at least not as prevalent as I used to.

It's one... once a race maybe, but it's never all day like it used to be.

But tell me about your day that day in Hawaii.
