The Meijer I've seen on TV, and I did talk to one of the Meijer, people early on and they were really very excited about the number of fans they had but for some reason I've never gotten up there though I should
8:58
I think you'd really enjoy it I mean I go every year to both of them and The fan interaction, especially at the Meijer, is just crazy.
9:06
And the players themselves say, we feel like we're at a U.S. Open.
9:12
The fans are so deep along the ropes and many rows.
9:16
And then they have great food up there and everything that goes with it.
9:19
But...
9:20
What some people might not have noticed, this has been a year of attrition for pro golf in Michigan.

15 MINS LATER

24:28
You made him wade into the water and
37:35
Also August 2nd.
37:37
Yeah, so was the Buick Open's was, disappeared on August 2nd as well, and I think it was 19...
37:45
No, wait, it was 2019, sorry.
37:47
Um, the LIV event at St. John's, somebody there admitted recently there's been no build-out.
37:55
They haven't been told it's officially over, but there's been no build-out of suites or grandstands or nothing, and that event's supposed to be like three weeks away, and those things take over a month to do.
41:57
Mm-hmm.
41:57
So Rocket Mortgage took the tournament planning in-house away from a professional planning group that did it for seven years.
42:06
And he said, "The, um, the assignment I gave my people was, 'Open your ears.
2:36
Charlevoix died in this accident.
2:38
Correct.
2:38
It's a serious, serious injury.
2:40
Two very serious injuries, including the coach.
2:43
There were seven to eight boys on the van at the time.
2:48
And so that kind of, not end of the season, but it totally altered it.
2:53
Oh, yeah.

15 MINS LATER

17:30
But what did you see yesterday?
40:07
[laughs]
40:07
Because what you guys went through, and then you come back the next year and you win the state title, I mean, that's, that is made for Hollywood TV.
40:16
And, uh, um, I kinda wish Jim Cash was still alive, a former Michigan State professor who wrote Top Gun, uh, the original movie.
40:25
I thought my first phone call-

11 MINS LATER

51:36
Mm-hmm.
51:37
And they hired, uh, Tyler Ray to come in and refurbish the course back to what Donald Ross had.
51:43
And it was just, it's just beautiful.
51:45
Um, it's a flatter piece o' land, of course, inside the city limits of Detroit.
9:26
Tom, when you are talking to people and your travels across the state and college golf comes up and Eastern Michigan or game above, what do you tell them?
9:39
Well, I was just going to say that something that Josh hasn't mentioned yet about Game Above is they're the real reason that his two superstar twins moved from Long Beach State to here because of the commitment that they said they would give these girls after college.
9:58
Game Above has stepped up, and Brett White, who we've had on our show before, he's supported by Game Above while he's pursuing the PGA Tour.
10:08
And the support and the finances and the encouragement and everything that helps these former Eastern Michigan students seek their – dreams and their career goals on tour and whatnot is realized because of the support.
10:26
And that's a very important factor to keep drawing new players here and drawing in new talent.

18 MINS LATER

28:36
You've been all over the place.
28:39
Yeah, I started with Saturday and Sunday at Drummond Island on the very eastern tip of the Upper Peninsula, just about an hour from the bridge.
28:47
That was a lot of fun.
39:17
Tom, when you are talking to people in your travels across the state and college golf comes up and Eastern Michigan or Game Above, what do you tell them?
39:30

44:29
And if you're at Stanford or you're at an SEC program, you have a leg or two up, right?
44:37
Well, I think we can.
44:38
I mean, Northwestern proved it by winning the national championship last year or the year before.
44:42
Yeah.
