while I was engaging in social movement spaces, I was watching the news.

I was in my early 20s.

I had been kind of stunned repeatedly by many different anecdotal small moments in my life of engaging with Israeli culture and society in ways that didn't sort of fit my childhood, kind of the golden vision.

I basically became more involved in wanting to just firstly wrestle with that on a spiritual level and also engage with it on a communal level.

In order for me to feel comfortable, it's a very long-winded way to explain it, but I think this is the truest way.

In order for me to feel comfortable wrestling publicly or through art with my relationship to Israel as someone who was born there, as a citizen, et cetera, and someone who is not fluent in Hebrew, so very much in a diasporic next-generation experience inheriting these stories, And the idea is I wanted to speak to my grandmother.
