7:38
There was just something about a jungle and a forest that just sends me straight to sleep
7:43
oh yeah absolutely i mean i think i probably had my best night's sleep of the trip while we were camping in the jungle overnight there's something very reassuring almost of having the sound of insects as a backdrop while you sleep um we were camping right in amongst the We were with the jungle warfare instructors and then while we were there the Queen's Gurkha engineers were camping about 300 meters further into the jungle.
8:14
We got to film them setting up their hammocks under the cover of darkness between trees which was quite a challenge for them but amazing to see that that's what they have to do.
8:25
And then it was in the middle of the night that night that we were awoken by some rather scary noises and I spoke to Private Akash Rai the next morning to find out how it was for him.
9:01
That must have felt quite nerve wracking.
9:03
I mean, I'll be honest with you.
9:05
I actually didn't hear them.
9:07
I tried my best to sleep without my earplugs in, but it was quite noisy and I needed a good night's sleep.
0:50
But how was the Royal Welsh Show?
0:53
Do you know what? It was the most Welsh thing I've ever been to, but I absolutely loved it.
0:58
I think I arrived to this valley, you know, beautiful valley.
1:02
I mean, it was dusty in Wales.
1:05
First time you could ever say that there's dust in Wales.
1:07
It was so dry.
1:08
It was 27 degrees, blue skies.

6 MINS LATER

7:00
It's very good to do these kinds of events.
1:07
Now, can you describe the day for me? Like, what was it like?
1:11
So it was very much a media day.
1:13
We were there to follow the soldiers as they were being tested out on the range.
1:18
And so what they do is they'd have a briefing.
1:20
They were set up by this old derelict plane that had crashed.
1:23
been placed there or crashed there onto the training area i'm not quite sure and then in pairs they would run down into a trench where then every few minutes an fpv drone would be flown towards them steadily increasingly getting closer and closer and then they used a number of pieces of equipment both electronic and then using shotguns and rifles to try and take this drone out of the sky
6:21
But what were some of the challenges that they had to face whilst they were there?
6:26
Well, I think alongside the extreme conditions from the weather, it's also you're trying to shoot an FPV drone out of the sky.
2:31
What were your first impressions of this?
2:33
I was really impressed.
2:35
A lot of these competitors are very much at the start of their military careers, so to be put through their paces for four days straight was quite impressive to see.
2:44
Certainly the challenges and the tests that took place on Thursday were arduous, really intense physical challenges, which is one element they were being tested on.
2:53
and they took part in a two miler on the Thursday which involved doing kind of running from station to station and then at each station they were tested on jerry can carrying, a camo net crawl, a tyre flip and then it concluded with a sword lane.
3:09
Now this is a bayonet lane as we would know in other areas of the military but the rifles are the only infantry in the British Army to refer to bayonets as swords and to film that was really amazing.

5 MINS LATER

8:27
Well, I guess this really must encourage sort of the next generation of infanteers into the army, right?
8:33
Absolutely, I think it was a really important competition to be held and I think everyone there in attendance really gave it their all and were really proud of what they'd achieved and I actually got to speak to Johnson Bahari VC who was there in attendance and he was telling me how he was inspired.
