Tim Hubbard is the creative director and global licensing representative for the Conan Doyle Estate and family.
15:42
He was the greatest teacher, wasn't he? Because he was entertaining his students.
15:47
They thought that he knew something that they didn't.
15:51
But looking back now, it's fairly straightforward of how that came about, where he could look at the color of, you know, your cuffs.
15:59
If your cuffs were stained or you had a certain color of dirt under your nails or the color of your skin.
16:05
It was almost like he was guessing, but he wasn't guessing because it was just down to experience.
16:11
As far as the invention of Sherlock Holmes, I think it was a huge influence.

42:24
Yet, as he wins praise for exposing injustice, another interest of his begins to take center stage.
2:52
[sighs] Can you tell me about your business?
2:58
Yeah.
2:58
So, um, I've been in real estate for a long time, I guess 16 years now.
3:03
I started in, in the long-term rental investment side of things.
3:08
Um, I worked as a commercial broker, uh, and then helping with investment sales in Northern California, where I'm from originally.
3:17
And I was traveling a lot, so I've always, I've always kind of traveled, and that's how I discovered Airbnb.
3:24
I was staying on there, you know, way back in the day.

19 MINS LATER

22:12
What advice can you give us about operations and customer retention and managing great relationships so that you, you can get the great reviews?
16:18
Subscribe, stay with us, and let's keep building cool stuff that serves people well.
16:24
Yeah, I think tons of opportunity with AI.
16:27
And I know there's a lot of tools out there.
16:29
It seems like every week there's a new one that promises you can turn it on and your business is going to be automated.
16:35
We have to be really careful, right? We don't get second chances when it comes to a guest experience.
16:41
Usually.
16:42
And so what we found is that a lot of the tools out there today do a good job at responding to simple questions like, you know, what's your Wi-Fi password or, you know, what's the address? You know, I can't find my check in instructions or I don't.

7 MINS LATER

24:13
Yeah.
0:56
So why don't you take us to the beginning of your story in real estate and just tell us how you got here.
1:01
Sounds good.
1:02
I got started in 2010, right after, right after the crash.
1:06
Luckily, that wasn't, that wasn't me planning.
1:08
That was just luck and good timing.
1:10
And I started with long-term rentals.
1:12
I'm from Sacramento originally, and that's where I got started.

5 MINS LATER

6:15
... expectation changes.

It was the greatest teacher, wasn't it, because he was entertaining his students.
14:26
They thought that he knew something that they didn't.

But looking back now, it's fairly straightforward of how that came about, where he could look at the color of, you know, your cuffs.
14:38
If your cuffs were stained or you had certain color of dirt under your nails or the color of your skin, it was almost like he was guessing, but he wasn't guessing 'cause it was just down to experience.
14:50
As far as the invention of Sherlock Holmes, I think it was a huge influence, but then he built that character like no other with lots of other different influences that he was meeting people through that time.

24 MINS LATER

38:48
Yet, as he wins praise for exposing injustice, another interest of his begins to take center stage.
38:58
There's been lots of evidence and writing around Doyle's fascination with spirituality, but I really believe that Doyle's interest was piqued certainly during the atrocities and certainly after the First World War, and ultimately he wanted to help.
