wasn't a championship
21:11
winning car, but he lost the championship by two points.
21:13
And if he hadn't had his blow up in Spain, he probably would have won, came back and won the title in a car that, again, it was not a championship winning piece of machinery, but Verstappen made it one because of his natural talent, his ability.
21:28
And now we're kind of in this stage here where the drivers aren't able to show that, right? The drivers aren't able to be those difference drivers.
21:36
makers inside the machines and that i think is where the drivers are most uh furious like what they're most furious about because there are going to be instances in this season where may not be the driver's fault but we may not know that because of the amount of technology and how hard it is for people to explain what's going on inside the race cars so for next season the season after that And then eventually into a new regulation, a lot of this stuff is going to get stripped out of these cars.
22:09
There is parts of it, though, like you know or you've probably read already, where some of it is just inherently baked into the regulation.
22:16
And there isn't really much they can do about it.
25:08
finish 1-2, and let's say Antonelli finishes 8th.
3:03
And, uh, early on here, obviously FP1, FP2, George Russell leading the way, uh, Tim.
3:09
Yeah, he was pretty quick, eh? Uh, it was actually quite surprising how quick he actually was.
3:15
I mean, I think, um, I think at the end of the day, like, we still don't know how much fuel everyone was running.
3:24
We don't know how much fuel the likes of Ferrari had on board.
3:28
Um, uh, I guess it's a little more concerning, though, when you take a look a little further back and you see how far off the pace McLaren is running the same power unit.
3:39
In their defense, however, even though Lando did sound pretty dramatic at the end of [laughs] free practice two, um, I think a couple things need to be taken into consideration when it comes to their car, the amount of upgrades they've brought to it, which is, uh, pretty shocking to say the least because of the amount of those updates, and where are they in relation to the cost cap.
4:05
Um, I mean, it's pretty impressive that they're still able to make these big upgrades with their car.
5:49
Yeah.
27:43
Tim, how good is he? Is he a generational talent of the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen?
27:50
Yes, he definitely is.
27:51
I mean, I can give you some examples of some of the things I think that I've seen and coached a lot of drivers in the past, still coaching drivers as well.
28:02
And Toto actually had made a good point.
28:05
I think it was...
28:06
It was around this time last year.
28:08
It was just before the Italian Grand Prix, if I remember correctly, and I was chatting with him about it, and he essentially said that we have to watch how emotional does the driver get.

12 MINS LATER

40:41
We do everything really, don't you? What's it like from your point of view?
1:54
Uh, what are your impressions, if you were to compare it to, uh, the Exhibition grounds, where the race was held forever, to this one? How much different will it be for the drivers?
2:03
Um, yeah, it's really different.
2:05
Uh, it's just a d- different layout.
2:06
Has elevation to it.
2:08
Has a lot of really fast corners, uh, on it as well.
2:11
I mean, I would say that it's a typical Canadian racetrack.
2:13
It's, [laughs] you know, pretty fast, has some really great corners.

10 MINS LATER

11:48
Based on how this, uh, season has gone, the, uh, the IndyCar season, what, uh, what's your call about some names to watch, uh, this weekend in Toronto?

0:30
Uh, what are your impressions, if you were to compare it to, uh, the exhibition grounds where the race was held forever to this one? How much different will it be for the drivers?
0:39
Um, yeah, it's really different.
0:41
Uh, it's just a d- different layout, has elevation to it, has a lot of really fast corners, uh, on it as well.
0:46
I mean, I would say that it's a typical Canadian racetrack.
0:49
It's, [laughs] you know, pretty fast, has some really great corners.
0:53
Um, it wasn't fully complete, though, when I was there.
0:55
They were still putting the track together.
speaker_0HOST
3:43
Like, the actual art of putting together a race course, how difficult is that?
21:58
Mm
21:58
... to run this power unit.
22:00
But then, coming into Hungary, McLaren was working in lockstep with HPP.
22:05
And Stella believes that they probably unlocked all of the performance from the engine now.
22:13
So that's a good sign for McLaren, plus the upgrade that they brought.
22:17
And all of that combined, obviously Lando driving really well, he goes well in Hungary, all of that mixed together allowed Lando to be as fast as he was in the race.
22:31
Clean air helped him as well, and also, uh, the tire deg.
24:18
Yeah
27:04
Did I hear that right, Tim? [laughs]
27:06
Yeah, I feel the same way because of the Ferrari engine that Cadillac goes out and leases from, from Ferrari.
27:14
So Cadillac doesn't build their own power units just yet.
27:17
I mean, they will one day, but not right now.
27:20
Right now, they lease engines from Ferrari.
27:22
Ferrari's engine, uh, we think, is going to actually be pretty powerful here in Monaco.
27:27
A lot of slow-speed corners.
31:31
Mm.
15:38
Uh, does this track suit Mercedes and his driving style to stay ahead of George?
15:45
I think so.
15:46
I mean, Antonelli grabs his first podium in Formula 1 right here in Montreal, and it's a track that he's driven, he drove well at last year.
15:56
I wouldn't see why he can't just pick up where he left off.
16:01
Uh, I think he's found something in this car somewhere that George is still searching for, and that's that confidence and comf- comfort, being comfortable within the car itself.
16:11
Mercedes is bringing a pretty big upgrade for this car this weekend.
16:18
It's their first upgrade of the season, and it's an important part of their championship campaign here, because if they haven't got the upgrade right, then the likes of McLaren and possibly Ferrari are, are going to catch them.
19:41
But I was also s- seeing that there's, Ferrari's a little bit worried because it seems like they've found something, but now the FIA is gonna change some of the ruling that could affect them the most with their specific, uh, engine.
