When you look across Canada today, what do you believe are the biggest opportunities and the biggest challenges that face PGA of Canada professionals, say, over the next five to ten years?
4:09
Great question.
4:10
I think right now, I mean, it's the number one participation sport.
4:14
We've got, you know, you look at this country and all the work we do with Golf Canada right now, you look, you know, 6 million players across this country, just about 4,300 golf professionals.
4:26
That's opportunity right there.
4:29
What a great, great way for us to be leaders in just golf itself.
4:34
And the beauty of our industry, Murray, is the fact is that we, We can just we can have so many touch points in this game for for so many players and so many operations.
5:53
So talk about how the profession has evolved.
16:43
So what do you think the reasons for that is? And, um, what advice would you give to a young woman that might be, you know, considering it, but might still be on the fence about it?
16:53
Yeah, I think that, and that's a great question, and it's come up a lot.
16:57
Our association and golf itself has changed a lot over the years, and I always use this analogy, and I don't like to date myself, but I will when I talk about this, is that when I got in the industry, it was, you know, you work all these hours, you don't get home, you can't have a family, you don't have time for any of that.
17:22
And I think that that was always, and that was a long time ago, a lot of that has stuck.
17:28
And there's been that hesitation of, oh my, how do I have work-life balance? How do I raise a family? How do I get married? How do I get time to do all of that? And now, hopefully...
17:41
we're saying, you know what, we've got great players in Canada, great female players.
17:47
There's going to be a small percentage that are going to go to the LPGA or play on tours, and I encourage that and I believe in it, but there is a place for those female players members or great golfers to say you know what teaching maybe is that maybe that's your role or you know running an academy or starting an academy or working in the shop or you know being a club pro or being a club manager you know there's so many different pathways now they can take that offer them a great living, a great lifestyle.

I'm not sure it's always been that way.
