What is it, and, and what happened with the banana fly?
12:33
fly?Uh, actually, uh, the accurate, uh, is the, the, the accurate story is really that the, the graduate student in a journal club that we regularly had in the, in the lab group brought a paper on the banana fly.
12:51
We didn't work on it ourselves.
12:53
But basically, that paper showed that the mTOR, uh, version in a banana fly is a slightly different pathway, but doing similar things in the banana fly liver was able to regulate, uh, the, the whole growth of the whole banana fly in response to various metabolic, uh, signals.
13:14
So we started to think about what could mTOR do in the placenta.
13:18
And, and the mTOR is really a signaling pathway that exists in all cells.
13:24
But in the placenta, it seems to have a very specific role to serve as a very critical hub linking signals from the mother that provide information about diet, her diet, her nutrition, metabolism, stress levels, as well as the placental blood flow.
